on how the Current Economic Crisis is Impacting Family Law Cases & Practices.
Featured speakers included Hon. Bonnie Mizdol, PJFP (Hackensack), John E. Finnerty, Jr., Charles F. Vuotto, Jr.
and Amy Wechsler.
The program addressed how the depreciation of assets and rising
unemployment in today's economy is impacting settlement negotiations and
applications to modify child support and alimony.

Charles Vuotto co-presented at the New
Jersey Society of CPAs joint Divorce Conference.
He, along with other experienced divorce practitioners, discussed developments and the growing debate among experts in the case law
regarding the allocation of certain assets to the marital estate for
equitable distribution purposes. The speakers discussed trends in
Court decisions for both in-state cases and precedent being formulated
in other states in this realm, in the context of both the growth of
businesses and other (at least partially) active assets acquired before
marriage and/or after the Complaint for Divorce is filed.
The presenters briefly discussed the emerging concepts of
"extraordinary circumstances", as defined in New
Jersey's Brown v. Brown decision.

2004 Family Law Symposium
Mr. Vuotto was one of a number of
presenters at the 2004 Family Law Symposium which is one of the largest and most
widely attended family law seminars given each year in the State of New Jersey.
The seminar is sponsored by the new Jersey Institute for Continuing legal
Education. Mr. Vuotto spoke on key provisions and issues to consider
when preparing arbitration and mediation agreements.

Valuations in Divorce Situations” at the Hanover Manor in East Hanover,
New Jersey. Mr. Vuotto spoke with Paul Gazaleh, CPA of the Chalfin Group, Inc., of
Metuchen, New Jersey. This
program covered an overview of the matrimonial engagement from the
perspective of the accountant, preparation of lifestyle and cash flow
analyses, calculating income available for support (stock options as
income), assessing complex asset valuations including closely-held
businesses (with emphasis on the recent case of Brown v. Brown and
the standard of value), valuing and distributing stock options, valuing
and distributing retirement/deferred compensation plans and discussing
relevant case law.
